The faces sometimes hide the pain but it's still there, just below the surface. Seeing death, sometimes horrific death, and sometimes being the one who caused the death can do untold things to the conscious mind, let alone the sub-conscious. An article in USA Today chronicles an Army Father & Son trying to deal with life and death. Trying to live as normal of life as possible after being deployed to an area where death was all around.
